Our Story
The Māori word kiwi has given its name to New Zealand's national symbol, the kiwi bird. Kiwis are exceptional birds, known for their highly developed senses and their extreme loyalty. The appreciation New Zealanders have for these noble animals is so great that they have also started to call themselves Kiwis. It is therefore more than fitting that our company was named after this magnificent and deeply respected national treasure of New Zealand.
Like the kiwi, we too promise to be loyal to our partners and to provide high-quality delights for all the senses!
New Zealand – The great little wine country
New Zealand wines have found their way onto the shelves of Alko and into the glasses of Finnish wine lovers. For many, New Zealand wine means Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, but the reality is considerably more diverse.
Get to know the wines of New Zealand
New Zealand is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, consisting of two main islands: the North Island and the South Island. Wine is produced on both islands, but despite the country's relatively small size, the differences between the regions are considerable. As a rule, each region has generally specialized in its own grape varieties.

New Zealand is a more multifaceted wine country than its reputation suggests, producing wines for every palate. There are significant differences between the regions due to growing conditions, and the country indeed produces all styles of wine, from crisp white wines and robust reds to nearly syrupy dessert wines.
